Carping Ain't Easy

Blogs like Carp On The Fly and Fly-Carpin can give the false impression that catching carp is easy. In the Triangle that can't be farther from the truth. My buddy Shea shares his experience. I hope you enjoy it. I think it's something most of us carper wannabes can relate to.

  1. I enjoyed Shea's post, an he's on track to the challenges of catching carp. Continue your quest for gold, its still one of my favorite fish on a fly even when I get skunked!

    1. Thanks for reading. Carp are tough. They might have served up more skunks than any other fish.

Great piece of information on carp fishing. I am no carp fisherman, but I have to admit I wouldn't miss the chance to entice one into taking my offering. I have experienced what it is like to land a carp pretty much by accident, on the fly this past April when bluegill fishing on one of my favorite bluegill lakes. I was trying to get my dragon fly placed under some overhanging branches, little did I know that this carp was lurking there. The fish simply sucked the fly in making believe it was a dink bluegill, but I soon found out otherwise. I realized after I landing the fish what all the fuss is about when it comes to carp fishing. Here is the link for the trip--thanks for backing back some memories

  3. They grow on you don't they? My only wish for such a challenging fish is that they leaped more often. I have had 3 do exactly that just when hooked, only to throw the fly. Dang, I really wanted to catch those fish! I enjoy reading of other's experiences, especially if they are closer to mine vexation.

    1. I think the most addicting part of carp fishing is knowing it's possible. That's what keeps us casting at shadows.

  4. Kevin, thanks for sharing your friends post on Carp fishing. I have a goal of catching a Carp this year on the fly rod from some of the ponds I fish. Played with them a little this past season, but, to no avail. I am sure once I hook one on a fly rod, I will be a consumed mess of a fly fisherman.

    1. Mel, it can ruin you. Once you catch one you'll spend way too much time casting at blogs and bubbles in the water.

  5. Good stuff right there. The gents that run the Carp on the Fly and the Fly Carpin' blogs make it look easy, but I'm pretty sure they would agree with you that it's a tough nut to crack most days. But then that's part of the allure of carp. Maybe even the biggest part.

  6. One of the most fun days fishing last year was the day I started stalking carp.It was maddening and exciting. A good buddy sent me a handful of flies that I'm pretty sure will help me hook up next year. Thanks again Kev.
