The Clouser Box

I spent the afternoon tying some clousers while daydreaming about stripers and fishing the salt. I don't know why but I love the look of clousers stacked in a fly box. I'm trying a new color this year. I usually stick with the regular tutti-fruiti chartreuse/pink but this year I'm going to try chartreuse/burgundy. Hopefully it's a winner.

  1. Nice looking box. I'm sure the the burgundy will prove successful. Bleeding baitfish always attract attention.

  2. I'm going to have to try some with the burgundy. Tutti Frutti always a good choice. I had excellent luck this year (especially with white bass) with a teal/blue over white with white eyes. Shiner? Maybe. The White Bass ate 'em up, though, including my 10-year-old son's first flyrod fish (and first white bass).

    1. Steven, I believe it. That blue/white color combo was the only thing working for stripers one day on the Roanoke. Fish are a fickled creature for sure. Could be the bait was darker that year or something. I have no idea.

  3. Nice. My workhorse Clouser around here is grey/white with a few wisps of yellow and light blue mixed in.

  4. First off, thanks again for the flies. I got a few follows, but haven't been able to pull the trigger yet. You tie a nice fly.

Nice Clousers, the louder the colors the better the attractor. Thanks for sharing

  6. Looks good to me. In salt I have always done well with clousers: lots of cuda's and jacks taken on them not to mention a fair amount of wipers (we don't have any stripers around me unfortunately). For me my best color in salt has been light pink on both top and bottom with UV flash in the middle. I could see burgundy working great as well. Keep us updated.
