GeekPro Camera

I have been eyeing GoPro cameras for quite awhile. I just couldn't justify paying $300. I searched Amazon for a waterproof camera and stumbled upon the GeekPro.

At first glance I thought maybe someone posted the wrong info. The camera looks exactly like a GoPro but it's under $70. After reading the description I became even more interested. The specs were almost exactly like a GoPro3. I figured this camera is still probably crap but all of the reviews gave it 5 stars and included video footage. I decided for that price it was worth trying. The camera comes with a water proof case and a bunch of different mounts. Any GoPro accessory will also fit this camera. I was really excited to see how this camera took underwater photos so I decided to try it while fishing recently. I'm pretty happy with the results.

I took the camera out on the kayak Saturday.

I tried mounting it with a pole in one of the rod holders. It's a work in progress but I think the quality is pretty good. The camera can record at 1080p at 30fpt, I record mostly all the video at 720fps. It uses less battery and runs at 60fps. The only drawback to the camera is the case. I think when the sun shines on the case it causes a yellow tint to form at times. One really cool feature of the camera is the WiFi function. You can use your cell phone as a remote and see what the camera is seeing from your phone. You can also start and stop recording from your phone.

I'll be using this camera quite a bit and I'll try to share more videos.

  1. WOW. I'm super surprised at the video quality. The under water shots were crisp and clear. You really cannot beat that price for a GoPro type of camera with a waterproof housing. Thank you, for sharing your findings! Looking forward to a more extensive review, to see how well it holds up over time.

I also subscribed to your page.

I am so into these type video cameras, this one looks just the GoPro; are you going to mount it on your head using a helmet? I bought the Contour last year and have been really pleased with the performance. I use a bicycle helmet I bought at Academy Sports to mount the camera on, which works to perfection. Looking forward to some fishing videos soon. thanks for sharing

    1. Hello Bill,

I've tried using the head strap that is basically the helmet cam. I didn't really like the view. I've read on some GoPro tip sites that if you do plan to go with a helmet cam it's good to use a helmet with a visor. I guess this gives your sight a point of reference and makes the video seem less jumpy. I bought an accessory kit for under $20 that came with all kinds of stuff. It included the helmet mount and chest mount. Both look totally dorky.

  3. My son-in-law said I look like a space alien with the helmet on, but it works and that is all that matters to me.

  4. How's the sound recording quality? I'm really thinking about buying one but I want to be sure I can hear what I'm recording... I'm sure it's better out of the waterproof case, but I would hate to get caught in the rain. Thanks in advance!

    1. The sound quality is really good in my opinion. I've only done quite a bit of recording with the camera in the case. Even with the camera in the case the mic pics up things pretty well. When you hear my daugher say taa daaa in the swimming video. That is with the case on the camera.

    1. The tab is on their pretty tight. You need to put quite a bit of pressure on the black plastic tab and it will snap up releasing the housing around the camera.

  7. Have you noticed when a video is downloaded to another device (phone or tablet) there is no audio, or is it just me?

  8. When you record video, does it record in one long continuous shot or is it broken up into short clips?

    1. Hello Anna, that depends on what mode you have the camera in. If you're doing time laps it will be broken short clips or a bunch of pictures. If you use the general recording feature it will be one long movie.

  9. How do you get audio to a phone or tablet? Great video but no audio?

    1. Hello April, when you connect a usb cable to the camera should should see the files on the camera from your tablet. Copy them over to the tablet and audio should be included with the videos. There's no separate step to add the audio.
