I just could't believe the amount of space the cave provided. It was also hard for me to understand how the roof didn't just collapse from the weight of what was above. It's not really dangerous for young ones as long as they don't run off. Dug by the Chinese in the mid-1800's is was short for this 6'3" guy. Claustrophobia in a big way. Closer to home now, is Black Chasm National Monument. Caves like the ones you were in. I hesitated, but my first time was with my Grandson on a school outing. Couldn't be a scaredy-cat so I sucked it up and in I went. Had a great time and have been back a couple more times. Caves are an awesome sight. Anyone who has a chance should visit one. Thanks for showing us yours. I remember years ago my wife and I took our kids to visit Ruby Falls, but these caves seem way beyond Ruby Falls. This would be an awesome trip for my grandchildren. We are going to do the falls in the Smokey Mt. next year. I would think these caves were used during the Civil War.
