Cat and I have had many episodes like what you described. There was the time we got stuck on a sandbar in the Keys in a rented boat,(that was the trip from hell), the time on the gheenoe at Fontana, multiple hiking trips,.... Hate to hear you lost a rod, always a painful event. I'm mourning the loss of my favored 2wt, it was broken last week.
